Requirements: | Candidates should be able to – (a) communicate in Cantonese/Chinese and simple English; (b) read simple Chinese and simple English; and (c) write simple Chinese or simple English. Note: (1) Candidates will be required to pass a trade test. (2) For the purpose of heightening public awareness of the Basic Law (BL) and promoting a culture of learning of BL in the community, assessment of BL knowledge will be included in the recruitment for all civil service jobs. Candidates who are invited to attend the selection interview will be tested orally on their BL knowledge during the interview. The results of BL assessment will be taken into account only if two candidates are considered equal in all other aspects. |
Duties: | Mainly deployed on – (a) delivering/collecting/carrying documents and other articles including equipment and furniture, to and from outside offices and other locations; (b) clearing trays within offices of the Department; (c) photocopying/sorting/binding of documents; (d) performing reception duties, pantry service, minor cleaning and tidying work; and (e) switching on/off lights and opening/locking up offices at the beginning and end of each working day. |
Remarks: | (1) Required to work 45 hours net per week. May be required to work irregular hours and perform outdoor duties. (2) This is a recruitment jointly conducted by the Buildings Department, Development Bureau (Planning and Lands Branch) and Hong Kong Observatory. Applicants are only required to submit one application form which will be considered by the three bureau/departments at the same time. (3) Successful candidates will be under the grade management of the head of the department to which they are appointed. They are subject to posting to fill vacancies and carry out different duties in the same grade in other Government bureaux/departments when the need arises. Remarks (for Hong Kong Observatory): Successful candidates may be required to work in remote areas and in adverse weather conditions. |
Terms of Appointment: | New appointees will normally be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years. Upon passage of probation bar, the officer may be considered for appointment on the prevailing permanent terms.
