The BA (Hons) programmes offered by the University of Wales are in 3 different areas: Business Management, Tourism Management and Leisure Management. The BA programme is offered in a part-time face-to-face mode and is assessed by written assignments and examinations. On a case-by-case basis, applicants will be admitted to Year One or Year Two (Top up) of the programmes. Applicants may apply for exemption. (HKMA DMS/ DBM graduates are normally admitted to Year Two, whereas Tourism/ Leisure Management Applicants may be required to take bridging courses)
The University of Wales
Founded by Royal Charter in 1893, the University of Wales is the second largest degree-awarding body in the United Kingdom. It comprises five eminent member institutions including Swansea Metropolitan University; Glyndwr University; University of Wales Institute, Cardiff (UWIC); University of Wales, Newport; University of Wales, Trinity St.David.
The University of Wales is the degree-awarding authority for more than 120 other higher education institutions both within the United Kingdom and overseas, with which it also enjoys close links. Annually, the University awards around 15,000 initial degrees and more than 4,000 higher degrees, making it the second largest degree-awarding body in the United Kingdom. The number of students, from all over the world, pursuing University of Wales degrees is around 70,000, and their studies cover a wide range of subjects.
The teaching quality and facilities of the affiliated institutions overseas have to go through rigorous reviews and quality assurance procedures and meet the standard of the University and the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education of the UK. The degree awarded by the University is equivalent to the standard and qualification of the home courses offered in Wales.
Admission Requirements
To be admitted to Year One of the programmes, applicants should normally hold one of the following:
- HKMA Professional Diploma holders
- 2 passes in HKAL examination
- Aged 21 or above with relevant working experience and professional qualification
- Other qualification deemed equivalent by the University
To be admitted to Year Two (Top up) of the programmes, applicants should normally hold one of the following:
- HKMA DMS/DBM graduates (Tourism/Leisure Management Applicant may be required to take bridging courses)
- Associate Degree/Higher Diploma holders in related disciplines
- Other qualifications deemed equivalent by the University
Applicants may apply for exemption. Decisions on the exempted credits will be made on a case-by-case basis.
English Requirements
To be admitted to programmes taught in English, applicants should normally hold one of the following:
- Pass in the Use of English of the HKAL Examination
- IELTS score of 6.0 or equivalent
(IELTS score of 5.5 will be offered a place upon successful completion of an English Enhancement course)
- Students who have completed at least 3 years (within the last 5 years) of education entirely through the medium of English
- EuroPass Level B2 or above (free EuroPass Test will be offered)
Applicants who cannot fulfil any one of the above English requirements can choose to study the degree programmes in Chinese.
